چکیده

Three-dimensional groundwater flow and solute transport models were combined within a genetic algorithm framework to solve the discrete-time, optimal control problem of pump-and-treat remediation management with multiple management periods. The results show that (a) a nonlinear concentration term in the performance index contributes significantly to remediation costs; (b) multiple management period strategies reduce the remediation cost but increase the computational cost; (c) genetic algorithms are robust numerical algorithms for both singleand multiple-period management schemes; and (d) the efficiency of the numerical approach is not sensitive to the probability of crossover and mutation.

Computational Stochastic Dynamic Programming Problems: Groundwater Quality Remediation

The general objective is the development of supercom-puting algorithms for the optimal feedback control of larger scale, continuous time, nonlinear, Markov stochas-tic dynamical systems. The numerical procedures are based on PDE methods such as the nite element or difference methods for stochastic dynamic programming, as well as other advanced numerical methods. The algorithms have been impleme...

A Self-adaptive Hybrid Genetic Algorihm for Optimal Groundwater Remediation Design By

Groundwater contamination is the result of multiple human activities, such as agriculture, industrial practices and military operations. The traditional remediation approach is to combine pump-and-treat for plume containment and contaminant capture, with other remediation technology for source control. Pump-and-treat systems are expensive, typically requiring high installation and operation cos...

Solving a Stochastic Cellular Manufacturing Model by Using Genetic Algorithms

This paper presents a mathematical model for designing cellular manufacturing systems (CMSs) solved by genetic algorithms. This model assumes a dynamic production, a stochastic demand, routing flexibility, and machine flexibility. CMS is an application of group technology (GT) for clustering parts and machines by means of their operational and / or apparent form similarity in different aspects ...

Optimal Remediation Design in Groundwater Systems by Intelligent Techniques

This research develops an optimal planning model for pump-treatinject based groundwater remediation systems. Optimizing the design of the pump-treat-inject system is a nonlinear, dynamic and discrete optimization problem. This study integrates the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Differential Dynamic Programming (DDP) to solve this highly complex problem. The proposed model considers both the cost of...

Groundwater Remediation Strategy Using Global Optimization Algorithms

The remediation of groundwater contamination by pumping and injection is generally a long-term and costly strategy. Aquifer cleanup time is a highly nonlinear and nonconvex function of pumping rates. The cleanup objective often involves minimizing or constraining the cleanup time or cleanup cost. Linear programming and nonlinear optimization cannot guarantee the global solution. In this study, ...
